Ways To Join Us

If you like to join the Ruhr University Research School (RURS) you should be interested in gaining additional qualification and discuss research topics across disciplines. You have the possibility to take part in our structured research training programme and to become a member of a highly interdisciplinary community of doctoral fellows.

There are two ways to join RURS:

  1. You can apply for a membership without full funding by a grant or a position for your research project by the RUB-Internal Application.
  2. You can apply for one of the grants with full funding for your research project within the grant programme

1. Membership - RUB-Internal Application
We encourage doctoral candidates coming from all research fields at Ruhr-Universität Bochum to become a member of the Ruhr University Research School. The membership offers full access to all programmes and enables research discussions beyond disciplines (it provides no full funding for doctoral projects). Interested doctoral candidates are welcome to apply. ...more

2.  Grant Programme
Once per year the Ruhr University Research School offers grants, which are funded by the Ruhr-Universität, private sponsors and corporate sponsorships. They are launched via an international call: candidates from Ruhr-Universität, from other universities in Germany and from abroad are invited to apply. All applicants are free to choose their research topics. All grant holders will be members of the Ruhr University Research School. ...more

Added value
As a member of the Ruhr University Research School you

  • participate in the structured research training programme
  • have full access to additional programmes like Doc2Doc, Conference Support or Career Guidance
  • become a member of a highly interdisciplinary community of doctoral fellows
  • are supported by the Individual Training and Supervision Plan
  • could gain experience in organizing international conferences; the “Section Days” at the end of the year are an integral part of the structured doctoral training programme and offer – for example - an excellent opportunity to participate in the organization
  • are supported to establish your own international network

In addition – until the end of the year 2012 - the RURS approves every fellow a 1000€ lump sum/per year for consumables and travels (for the years 2010 to 2012). At the end of the year 2012 the funding of the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) will end for the project “Ruhr University Research School”. RURS will be continued as a permanent structure. Therefore, we have to modify and adjust the reimbursement process for travels, consumables, books and conference fees according to the financial resources of the RURS. Of course we will inform you about further details in due time.
