Starthilfe

The funding line Ph.D.-Starthilfe supports RUB supervisors in their efforts to hire international graduates for open Ph.D. positions at their respective chairs and institutes. A funding period of three to six months prior to the actual start of the working contract (800€/month) is dedicated to making the doctoral researchers’ start here at RUB easier as they may join Research School’s workshops and counselling offers and will have additional time to get to know the institution and research landscape.

Aim

Aim

Ph.D.-Starthilfe is established to support RUB supervisors who consider hiring international graduates for an open Ph.D. position. Before the actual commence of the working contract, a funding period from 3 to 6 months aims to bring international doctoral researchers to the required level in terms of language training and academic qualifications, helping them integrate into the chair and department as well as getting to know the RUB community. Thus, German language training sessions (DaF) as well as RUB Research School workshops are open to the scholarship holders.

Funding

Funding

RUB Research School grants 5 Ph.D. Starthilfe scholarships per semester with a monthly payment of 800€. The individual funding periods may last between 3 to 6 months. Furthermore, travel expenses and visa fees will be reimbursed upon request.

Eligibility

Eligibility

Official applicant is the RUB Supervisor. We expect a proof of a financing possibility (3 years minimum) for the funded graduate that will become effective immediately after the Ph.D.-Starthilfe funding period. The regular probation period of the subsequent work contract remains unaffected. The international scholars must have obtained their qualification for doing a doctorate in a country other than Germany. The proof of formal acceptance of the candidates by the respective RUB faculty must be present at the time of application.
