Research Day 2011

InterDisciplinary Research
Date: November 10, 2011 (full-day)
The Research Day 2011 focuses on the opportunities and challenges of disciplinary and interdisciplinary research. The programme will answer basic questions to understand what disciplinarity and interdisciplinarity mean in theoretical and practical research:
- How can we define disciplinary and interdisciplinary research?
- How do we organise disciplinary and interdisciplinary research?
- Why interdisciplinary research? What are the benefits? What are the problems?
- Which competences do we need to carry out disciplinary or interdisciplinary research?
- Where are best practice examples at Research School or RUB?
An introducing keynote provides a theoretical background of both – disciplinary and interdisciplinary - research and gives an overview over ideas, definitions and objectives. A plenary table in the afternoon highlights three exceedingly interdisciplinary research projects on campus and will illustrate the practical side of the topic. This perspective will be completed by the strategic perspective of RUB on interdisciplinary research presented by the Rector.
The aim of the Research Day is to facilitate the communication and understanding of research across the sections and to raise the interest and awareness for research activities beyond disciplinary boundaries. Specially in the presentations (talks, experiments, videos) and poster presentations across sections you will have the opportunity to do both: to get to know more about the research projects in neighboured or very different research fields and to communicate your project to a highly interdisciplinary community of researchers. The Research Day is planned and organized by a team of doctoral fellows of Research School, who designed the programme and invited the speakers
