During my research stay in the United States from September to December 2024, I pursued three interconnected components of my doctoral project focusing on literary representations of the body and marginalized lived experiences in U.S. culture. The first part of my stay took place at American University in Washington, D.C., where I conducted research at the Barlett & Steele Archive and engaged in scholarly exchange with faculty, including Prof. Dr. Katharina Vester. The second part of my stay was marked by my participation in the annual conference of the American Studies Association in Baltimore. Under the conference theme “Grounded Engagements in American Studies,” I presented a paper exploring how decolonial American life writing reimagines queer-feminist coalition building through embodied narrative forms. The feedback I received from scholars in the field provided valuable perspectives that informed the development of my dissertation. The third segment of my stay took place at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in New York and the Audre Lorde Collection at Spelman College in Atlanta. At these archives, I examined unpublished materials that directly support my analysis of Lorde’s memoir Zami, particularly regarding her relationships with the Harlem Writers Guild and the Feminist Writers Guild, as well as her literary connections to figures such as Langston Hughes and June Jordan. |
