Course description

Creativity and innovation are essential to any researcher. And yet, it is highly challenging to keep a fresh and new perspective on running projects, to ask creative questions and to develop innovative steps towards a brand new solution.

In this course, participants will discover both the requirements to be creative as well as methods for innovative approaches. The participants will reflect on their very personal abilities to step out of a set frame of assumptions and practice their creative and innovation skills for the unknown to emerge.

The goal is to diverge from the known content and generate new thinking. This free thinking will then be converged back onto the actual science project with new insights and possible new approaches. This workshop explores creativity techniques and the participants' personality to allow for such an exploration. And it aims at expanding on an innovative perspective of the participants' science projects.

  • understanding creativity and innovation as a professional competence - concepts and ingredients
  • reflecting on personal abilities and access to creativity
  • from creativity to innovation
  • practicing creativity techniques
  • applying a creative approach to one's own science project
  • supporting others in developing a creative perspective on their research project
