FDM_01: ONLINE Research Data Management (Workshop 1 day + Moodle Course 90 min.)
Doctoral researchers of all research fields | Level all
Online workshop with preparatory Moodle course
Date: Workshop 27.06.2023
Time: 09:00 - 16:00 with flexible schedule and breaks
Trainer: Raisa Barthauer + Dr. Alexander Esser (AG Forschungsdatenmanagement RUB)
Participants: max. 16 participants
Credit Points: recognised with 0,25 CP for RUB-RS Certificate
In this course you will learn about the different aspects of research data management and apply them to your own data workflow.
What happens to your data during a research process? How do I organise my data in a meaningful way? And where to put the data afterwards? Dealing with a multitude of different data increasingly requires structured management, even already during the doctorate. This makes it easier for you to organise, find and share data and to gain research insights. Funding bodies also require a data management concept and sometimes demand that data be made available for subsequent use. How does this affect your everyday research?
The workshop is divided into two parts:
Part 1 Moodle course (approx. 90 min.):
This Moodle course is an introduction to research data management and offers an overview over basic information and concepts. The e-learning course is about 90 minutes and is a prerequisite for the second part. You can work through the Moodle course individually and start working on important topics like:
- What do funding bodies require?
- What is a data management plan?
- What is metadata?
- What is a data publication?
Part 2 Online Workshop (1 day):
The online workshop will focus on practical data management and will focus on the use of research data management for your research projects:
- Introduction to versioning with Git/Gitlab.
- File naming and structuring
- Ways to create your own data documentation
- What should be considered when archiving data?
- Why should one publish data, and where does one publish data?
There is no one right way to store data. Group exercises and discussions will therefore be used to jointly develop concepts for data management. Active participation is therefore essential for the success of the workshop.
For the introduction to Git, we will send you installation instructions in advance.
The Moodle course "Research Data Management" is freely accessible via Moodle:
