Course Description
The course shows how to write impactful research papers through a structured four-step system known as the LEAP academic writing approach. It’s a blueprint for first understanding the research results and then convincingly describing them in a research paper. Throughout the course, doctoral researchers engage in practical exercises, including drafting a research paper, completing interactive quizzes, and participating in simulation games to navigate real-world challenges like co-authoring a research paper.
To help participants rapidly apply the new knowledge, they will receive a research paper writing template with writing prompts, a LEAP writing cheat sheet, and an eBook that summarizes the course content. Participants can use the course to write or work on their own papers while following the self-study modules. Writing or working on an own paper is an offer, but no requirement.
Participants are expected to review one-another's paper summaries in pairs. The peer review should be organised between 25.05. and 01.06.2025.
Please consider that working through the self-study modules has to be completed before 25.05.2025.
Course Content & Organisation
The course is offered as blended learning that combines 2 online webinars and a self-study course with different modules.
Webniar No. 1: 10 Ways to Increase the Impact of Your Research (05.05.2025):
Research can make a difference only if others get to know about it. Publishing thorough research papers is very important but it is by far not the only way in which scientists can make an impact. In this live webinar, the participants will learn 10 ways in which they can make their papers stand out, presentations remembered, proposals approved, and their name recognized. The webinar will be held before releasing the course and information about the course content will be provided as well.
Self-study modules via an online platform – you can follow the self-study course with different modules individually with your own time- and workflow. You will have 4 weeks time to complete the self-study course. Within this time you can also draft or work on your paper if you would like to while working through the following self-study modules:
- Master academic research writing: Write papers that are clear and convey a message that convinces the readers.
- Understand the research paper structure: The LEAP writing approach provides a blueprint for writing each section step-by-step.
- Optimize your research paper format and outline: Organize ideas effectively using the included paper writing template.
- Address reviewer feedback: Confidently revise and respond to paper critiques.
- Save time: Learn how to think through writing to efficiently publish papers.
You will find additional information about the self-study course on the following Homepage.
Webinar No.2: Q&A About Paper Writing (02.06.2025):
