Wr_18: PRESENCE Speed Reading and Deep Reading of Scientific Texts

Researchers from all research fields | Level all

Workshop in person

Date: 03.-04.06.2025
Time: 09:00 – 17:00 h with flexible time schedule and breaks
Trainer: Jonas Ritter
Language: English
Participants: max. 12 persons
Credit Point: acknowledged with 0,75 CP for the doctoral training programme of RUB-RS Certificate

Course Description
The workshop provides techniques and strategies for reading research literature faster, more precisely and more effectively. The concept of speed and deep reading is based on neuroscientific findings.

In the workshop, participants learn a comprehensive set of techniques and exercises as well as tactics and strategies to increase both reading speed and reading accuracy, to understand and retain text content more easily and to read scientific texts efficiently and with focus.

Workshop contents:

  • increasing reading speed
  • improving reading concentration
  • reading at different speeds in order to adapt reading speed to the information density and reading goal
  • approaches to better comprehend difficult content
  • techniques to retain key information more effectively
  • tactics to quickly identify essential information in a text
  • strategic considerations for processing scientific texts & research literature
  • dialogical reading
  • reading motivation
  • easy-to-follow training program to maintain results after the course

Preparation:
Please bring a selection of scientific papers that you either need or want to read.

Trainer
Jonas Ritter has presented his training system at institutions including Harvard University in the USA. Since 2003, he also trains doctoral researchers on behalf of universities, and scientific research centers. Over thousands of practice hours with a wide range of readers, Jonas Ritter analyzed a vast spectrum of ways to improve concentration, reading speed, text comprehension, learning performance, and memory retention.
