In context of a research stay at Pollock research group (UCSB), investigations were aiming on microstructural characterization of Fe-C-B-Cr alloys. Particularly, the 3D phase distribution and morphology of the boride phases was investigated using the TriBeam system. It was found that the borides form a continuous network-like structure. The geometry of this structure was described by connectivity number, local thickness, cell size and ellipsoid factor. It was found that these characteristics can be adapted by casting parameters and subsequent heat-treatment. The results will be used to further understand and improve the mechanical properties in alloy design. |
