I participated on a doctoral Workshop about Pacific literature around 1800/2000, organised by the Institut für Germanistik, Universität Bern (12th/13th march 2016). By interesting lectures and discussions on voyage accounts and their reception in German literature (G. Forster, J.-J. Rousseau, G. Lichtenberg, F. Hölderlin, A. v. Chamisso) and contemporary fictional Pacific discourses in the recent novels of Ch. Kracht and H. Ch. Buch and others I learned a lot of new things about German literature and its construction of cultural alterity in connection with colonialism. |
