The workshop is especially designed for doctoral researchers who want to gain basic knowledge for successfully attracting funding for research and writing successful research proposals


Workshop description: 

Is the funding system for research a closed book for you? Then this workshop is the right course for you to gain first insight into the funding system. You will get to know the most important aspects of successfully attracting research funding. This will support you to attract funding for your research ideas and for a postdoc position.


You will get to know the basic principles of the funding system and guidelines to find funding possibilities targeted at your scientific ideas. This also includes funding possibilities for a fellowship abroad and an international career. You will gain insight into the structure of proposals as well as into submission and evaluation procedures.


Basis to successfully attract funding is the written proposal. Key factors for success are besides a brilliant idea and your personal motivation a distinctive title, a convincing summary as well as the appliance with all relevant formal aspects of submission and evaluation. During the workshop you will train to write a convincing proposal. Major focus will be the title of a proposal and the summary. You also will get to know unwritten rules you should keep in mind, when applying for funding.

  • submission and evaluation procedures



Dr. Wilma Simoleit is Consultant for research funding & career development in Science. In her professional experience Dr. Simoleit combines different perspectives of the research and the extramural funding system. As a scientist she worked for several years in Germany and the USA. She published numerous scientific publications and attracted successfully extramural funds. From research she changed to research management and research funding. She gained longtime experience in the support of national and international research at the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and the Deutsche Krebshilfe.
