Die Research Academy lädt Postdocs der Universitätsallianz Ruhr und Promovierende in der Schlussphase zum Austausch mit Unternehmensvertreter*innen aus dem Ruhrgebiet ein. Im Fokus steht das Matching der Kompetenzen, die Sie in der universitären Forschung erworben haben, mit den Anforderungen und Bedarfen der regionalen Wirtschaft. Auf dem Programm steht neben einem Impuls zu typischen Ängsten beim Wechsel in die Wirtschaft auch eine Paneldiskussion zur Transformation des Arbeitsmarkts. Nutzen Sie den Nachmittag bei der NATIONAL-BANK in Essen für Einblicke, 1:1-Gespräche und Networking!

Infosession Research Career Opportunities for Postdocs | online | 15 July, 10 - 12 h

The infosession is dedicated to postdocs at the beginning of their career and doctoral researchers in the last year of their doctorate, who already started planning a postdoc career. It provides an overview over the most important strategic aspects of a research career (in Germany). We highly recommend researchers who would like to apply for the Gateway Fellowship to participate (application deadline is 31 August, see Funding Opportunities section below). Register by 13 July.

Lore Agnes Vision Award | Bis 19. Juni nominieren

Menschen, die sich an der RUB besonders um Gleichstellung, Inklusion, Diversität und Antidiskriminierung verdient gemacht haben, können bis zum 19. Juni für den Lore Agnes Vision Award nominiert werden. Alle Mitglieder der RUB können Vorschläge formlos via E-Mail einreichen. Das Rektorat entscheidet auf Basis der Nominierungen über die Vergabe des Preises, der bei der Akademischen Jahresfeier am 18. November verliehen wird. Er ist mit 7.500 € dotiert.

Ruhr Innovation Lab Funding Days | online | 22. - 26. Juni

Eine Woche lang erhalten Forschende der Ruhr-Universität Bochum und der TU Dortmund einen Überblick über die Vielfalt nationaler und internationaler Fördermöglichkeiten. Die Research Support Offices stellen täglich von 12 bis 13 Uhr die wichtigsten Fördermittelgeber und Programme vor. Sie geben Tipps zur Beantragung und beantworten Fragen. Anmeldung erforderlich.

IDEA.2026 | Rotunde Bochum | 23 June, 15 - 20 h

IDEA brings together researchers, future founders and start-ups, aspiring entrepreneurs, young and established companies, and investors. For the second time, the WORLDFACTORY wants to create a perfect place to exchange ideas, insights, and experiences. You can discover the start-up ecosystem of Ruhr University Bochum, currently awarded as a top ten university for entrepreneurship in Germany. Participation is free of charge for everyone.

Stärken Sie Ihr wissenschaftliches Profil, erhöhen den Impact in Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft und erkunden Sie Optionen, zusätzliche Mittel für Ihre Forschung zu generieren! WORLDFACTORY bietet kommenden Herbst erneut das Workshop-Programm „Business Developer“ für erfahrene Wissenschaftler*innen aus den MINT-Fächern an. Es begleitet die Teilnehmenden dabei, ihre wissenschaftliche Expertise oder Forschungsergebnisse in ein konkretes, marktfähiges Angebot zu überführen, flankiert von intensiver Beratung und Austausch mit Innovationsexpert*innen und erfahrenen Wissenschaftler*innen. GPN Talk series "Career Perspectives: Beyond the Postdoc" | online | 8 July, 13 - 14 h

In this series, the German Postdoc Network wants to explore the variety of career paths that can follow upon a successful postdoc phase. Join the next session with Dr Patrick Honecker, Chief Communication Officer at the extended Executive Board of the TU Darmstadt. He introduces participants to science communication not just as a skill, but as a diverse field of professional practice.

Humboldtⁿ-School 2026 | Call for Contributions | Bis 17. Juli bewerben

Unter dem Titel „Circular Economy im Fokus - Forschen, Vernetzen, Transformieren“ findet vom 23. bis 25. September an der Bergischen Universität Wuppertal die Humboldtⁿ-School statt. Ziel ist es, den interdisziplinären Austausch von Promovierenden und Postdocs an nordrhein-westfälischen Universitäten zu fördern und innovative Ansätze zu entwickeln. Interessierte sind eingeladen, sich mit einem DIN A1-Poster zu bewerben. Gesucht werden Beiträge aus allen Disziplinen, die innovative Impulse zur Circular Economy liefern können.

Transfer-Tag der Nachhaltigkeit 2026 | katho Köln | 15. Oktober, 10.00 - 15.30 Uhr

Unter dem Motto „Zukunft, die trägt: Sozial-ökologische Transformation für uns alle“ laden die Nachhaltigkeitsallianz NRW und die Katholische Hochschule Nordrhein‑Westfalen Akteur*innen aus Politik, Wissenschaft, Wirtschaft und Zivilgesellschaft ein, gemeinsam praxisnahe Maßnahmen zu entwickeln und Netzwerke zu stärken. Auf dem Programm stehen eine Podiumsdiskussion, daran anknüpfende Workshops sowie ein Vortrag von Prof. Dr. Harald Lesch (Astrophysiker & ZDF-Wissenschaftsjournalist) und Jonas Geissler (Zeitforscher & Bestseller-Autor).

Workshop "Neutralität, Haltung, Handlungssicherheit" | Bochum | 22. Oktober, 14 - 18.30 Uhr

Der UniverCity Bochum e.V. veranstaltet einen Workshop zum Umgang mit demokratiegefährdenden Positionen im Hochschul- und Wissenschaftskontext. Im geschützten Raum können sich Lehrende bzw. Mitarbeitende der Mitgliedsinstitutionen - und damit auch der RUB - gemeinsam drei Bausteinen widmen: wissenschaftliche Einordnung, institutionelle Verantwortung und Handlungssicherheit im Ernstfall. Anmeldung bis 28. August.

Funding Opportunities

Int.Mo.P: Funding Conference Participations for Postdocs | monthly deadlines

With the International Mobility Programme (Int.Mo.P) funding line, we support postdocs to go to important national and/or international conferences in their fields up to two years after the completion of their doctorate. You can apply for 2,000 € maximum per conference to present the results of your doctoral or recent postdoc project. The conference must have an international orientation and you need to give a talk. Applications are possible until the first Wednesday of each month.

Gateway Fellowship - Postdoc stipend for your research experience abroad | Apply by 31 August

You have recently finished your PhD? Want to go e.g. to Harvard, Oxford, Paris or Queensland to start your postdoc career? Gateway Fellowship individual funding supports postdoctoral research stays abroad at an institution of your choice for up to nine months. The 27th call is open! We strongly encourage prospective applicants to attend the infosession on 15 July (see News & Events section above).

CAIS Fellowships 2027/28 | Apply by 23 July

Are you researching the societal impacts of digital transformation and seeking dedicated time and space for your project? The Center for Advanced Internet Studies offers financial support, inspiring working and living spaces in Bochum plus a vibrant community of like-minded scholars. The 6- or 3-month fellowships are open to experts from academia or practice, from all disciplines and career stages. The call will be published soon.

KWI International Fellowship Programmes | Apply by 17 August

The KWI International Fellowships are 6-month-scholarships (from April to March 2027) at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI) in Essen, which address international researchers from the humanities, cultural studies, and the social sciences with a completed PhD plus up to 6 years of post-doctoral experience. The Thyssen@KWI Fellowship, financed by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation, also reaches out to scholars of German nationality with several years of post-doctoral experience.

Klaus Tschira Boost Fund | Apply by 1 October

The program is designed to boost scientific careers and promote early independence for postdocs in biology, chemistry, computer science, geosciences, mathematics, neurosciences and physics. It is offering flexible funding of up to 115,000 €, opportunities to build (international) networks, workshops, coaching, and peer support. Don't miss the info session on 8 July at 16.00 h.

Prospects: Online talk series on DFG funding opportunites for research careers

DFG regularly offers an overview of its funding instruments for early career researchers as well as specific focus talks on the Walter Benjamin Programme, the Emmy Noether Programme and the Heisenberg Programme. They also provide advice on how to prepare your proposal for the review process and answer your questions. No prior registration required.

Postdoc-Workshop: Uncertainty in academia (and how to embrace it) | online | 2 July

In this webinar, you explore how to navigate the pervasive uncertainty of academic careers with resilience and intention. Rather than seeking false certainty, you will learn practical tools to build confidence and adaptability in the face of the unknown. Register by 18 June.

Junior Faculty in Focus: Managing my Research Group | in presence | 6 July

As a research group leader, you are a multitasker by definition. Between securing third-party funding, managing your organizational unit, and academic self-administration, one major challenge remains: How do you find the time to actually pursue your own research? In this workshop, you will reflect on your role and learn how to use tools like the "management house" to structure your team efficiently. Register by 22 June.

Postdoc Workshop: Communicating Effectively in Teams and with Other Researchers | online | 7 July

This workshop focuses on how to represent interests constructively, define professional boundaries, and make one’s work and contributions visible. You engage in interactive exercises that support reflection on roles and communication behaviour, enabling you to navigate team dynamics and hierarchical relationships more effectively. Register by 23 June.

Junior Faculty in Focus: Strategic Positioning and Expectation Management | in presence | 7 July

To be successful in an academic environment, it is important to be perceived and valued as a scientist. But how do you become visible in the research context and strategically position yourself? This workshop provides ideas on how you can deal with diverse expectations and the ‘political’ dynamics of the university environment without getting lost in day-to-day business. Register by 23 June.

Postdoc Workshop: Leading from the Middle – The Postdoc Sandwich Position | online | 13 July

Postdocs find themselves in a unique leadership situation: They are responsible for doctoral students and projects, but rarely have formal authority. At the same time, they want to meet the expectations of their principal investigator. The workshop teaches the basics of how to become effective in this ‘sandwich position’ in three consecutive online modules. Register by 29 June.

Postdoc Workshop: Negotiating, leading, and professional feedback | online | 14 July

This workshop introduces core concepts of goal-oriented communication, negotiation techniques tailored to research settings, and methods for providing and receiving constructive feedback. You engage in hands-on exercises that enhance your ability to communicate assertively and collaboratively in a range of professional situations. Register by 30 June.

Junior Faculty in Focus: Webcast "First audition? Applying for (junior-)professorships" | online | at any time until 30 September

With this new format we offer Habilitation Candidates, Junior Research Group Leaders, and Junior Professors a Video on Demand. You can work through it independently and on your own schedule. The aim of this webcast is to inform you in detail about all phases of the appointment procedure for W1 to W3 professorships in Germany and to provide you with specific assistance and tips for your application. After registering you will receive an email with a link offering full access to the course.

KI:edu.nrw-Themenreihe | online | 30. Juni

Gibt es Aufgaben in meinen Prüfungen, die schwerer sind, als ich beabsichtige? Schneidet ein bestimmtes Thema oder ein bestimmter Aufgabentyp tatsächlich schlechter ab? Diesen Fragen widmet sich ein Praxisbericht zur Entwicklung und Evaluation eines Dashboards zur Aufgabenschwierigkeit unter dem Titel "Das machen wir bisher nach Bauchgefühl". KI-Impulse für die Lehre | online | 26. Juni + 10. Juli

Die Reihe des Zentrums für Wissenschaftsdidaktik der RUB bietet Hochschullehrenden einen kompakten Überblick über Entwicklungen im KI-Bereich. Jeweils von 11.30 bis 12 Uhr werden praxisnahe Themen rund um den Einsatz von KI in der Hochschullehre vorgestellt. Die nächsten Impulse beleuchten ein aktuelles Urteil zur Täuschung mit KI-Tools in Prüfungen bzw. die Nutzung von KI-Avataren. Kurzfristige Anmeldung möglich.
