New workshop program for postdocs:
Registration for more than 20 offers open!

As postdoc within the University Alliance Ruhr you are invited to choose from more than 20 new workshops especially designed for your career stage, taking place online this winter semester. The program includes both short formats and more intensive ones supporting you in dealing with various challenges of your ongoing research activities within and outside academia. Take the opportunity to network with peers from the three UA Ruhr universities as well. You can put the workshops together individually according to your interests. Karriereforum Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft | RUB Veranstaltungszentrum | 16. November, 15:15 - 18 Uhr

Die Research Academy bringt Promovierende und Postdocs der UA Ruhr mit Vertreter*innen aus Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft zusammen. Alumni berichten von ihren persönlichen Erfahrungen, Herausforderungen und Laufbahnen in der nicht-akademischen Berufswelt. Zu den Gästen zählen Mitarbeitende der Bayer AG, RuhrFutur gGmbH, PD - Berater der öffentlichen Hand GmbH, d-fine GmbH, medigital GmbH und VIACTIV. Nach einer Panel-Diskussion haben Sie Gelegenheit, sich in Kleingruppen mit den Gästen informell auszutauschen. Die Anmeldung ist bis 8. November geöffnet.

Rückblick: So war connecting.ruhr 2026

Anfang Juli ging es für die Research Academy und den Jungen Initiativkreis Ruhr bei der NATIONAL-BANK in Essen in die dritte Runde von connecting.ruhr. Welche Fragen treiben (angehende) Postdocs um und welche Unsicherheiten halten sie vor dem Wechsel in die Wirtschaft zurück? Ein Impuls dazu fing die Stimmung vor Ort ein und leitete zur Panel-Diskussion über die Transformation des Arbeitsmarktes über - Q&A und Meet-up inklusive. Im Austausch ergab sich ein gemeinsames Bild: Karriere ist häufig ein Weg mit Abzweigungen und manchmal auch bewussten Richtungswechseln.

„Geistesblitz Bochum – das Wissensfestival rund um das Haus des Wissens“ | Bochum Innenstadt | 25. September, 16 - 22 Uhr

Bochums neues Wissensfestival feiert Premiere - und wir sind mit dabei! Gemeinsam mit Mitgliedern und Partner*innen des Wissensverbunds UniverCity Bochum e. V. möchten wir beim Geistesblitz Bochum zeigen, wie vielfältig Wissen in Bochum ist und vor allem, wie viel Spaß es macht, selbst Teil davon zu sein. Besucher*innen können aus über 80 Programmpunkten auswählen. Auch die Research School beteiligt sich mit einem Angebot für Schüler*innen, die sich darüber informieren möchten, was und wie Wissenschaftler*innen arbeiten und wie man Wissenschaftler*in werden kann.

Let's talk! Wissenschaft direkt - live | Blue Square, Bochum | 25. September, 16 - 20:15 Uhr

Mit diesem Format bringt das RUB-Netzwerk Wissenstransfer Forschende mit Bochumer*innen in Kontakt und ins Gespräch. Die nächste Ausgabe findet im Rahmen von „Geistesblitz Bochum – das Wissensfestival rund um das Haus des Wissens" statt (siehe oben). Unter dem Motto "Von Gestern Richtung Zukunft" gibt es Einblicke in Forschungsprojekte aus sieben Fachbereichen zu Themen wie Ruhrgebietsgeschichte(n), CO2-Upcycling in Kläranlagen, Alzheimer, Schlaf, Schmerz oder Sehnsucht. Interessierte können Gespräch-Slots (à 30 Min.) über eine Online-Plattform buchen.

Hochschuldidaktisches Programm 2026/27 | Ab 1. Oktober

Das Zentrum für Wissenschaftsdidaktik (ZfW) hat das neue hochschuldidaktische Qualifizierungsprogramm veröffentlicht. Ob Promovierende*r, Postdoc oder Professor*in – das Programm bietet allen Lehrenden praxisnahe Impulse für die eigene Lehre. Mit über 30 Workshops und zusätzlichen englischsprachigen Angeboten im Rahmen von UNIC können Teilnehmende ihre Lehrkompetenzen gezielt erweitern. Die Anmeldung ist im Fortbildungsportal möglich.

IDEA.Lab @ WORLDFACTORY | RUB-Makerspace (O-Werk) | ab 27. Oktober

Sie möchten herausfinden, welches unternehmerische Potenzial in Ihrer Projektidee steckt? Die WORLDFACTORY unterstützt Sie dabei: In Workshops schärfen Sie Ihr Problemverständnis, entwickeln und hinterfragen mögliche Geschäftsmodelle und lernen Methoden zur Marktanalyse und Konzeptvalidierung kennen - Einblicke in Förder- und Finanzierungsmöglichkeiten und Austausch mit anderen Gründungsinteressierten inklusive. Young Entrepreneurs in Science Workshop "Your Innovation Skills" | online | 7 October, 10 - 13 h

Get to know the different aspects of an innovator’s skill set. Discover what you already bring to the table. Understand how those skills contribute to a team. Young Entrepreneurs in Science offers this interactive workshop in cooperation with the UA Ruhr universities for master‘s students, PhDs and postdocs, thus you can reflect and practise your entrepreneurial mindset together with your peers. Transfer-Tag der Nachhaltigkeit 2026 | katho Köln | 15. Oktober, 10.00 - 15.30 Uhr

Unter dem Motto „Zukunft, die trägt: Sozial-ökologische Transformation für uns alle“ laden die Nachhaltigkeitsallianz NRW und die Katholische Hochschule Nordrhein‑Westfalen Akteur*innen aus Politik, Wissenschaft, Wirtschaft und Zivilgesellschaft ein, gemeinsam praxisnahe Maßnahmen zu entwickeln und Netzwerke zu stärken. Auf dem Programm stehen eine Podiumsdiskussion, daran anknüpfende Workshops sowie ein Vortrag von Prof. Dr. Harald Lesch (Astrophysiker & ZDF-Wissenschaftsjournalist) und Jonas Geissler (Zeitforscher & Bestseller-Autor).

GPN Talk series "Career Perspectives: Beyond the Postdoc" | online | 22 October, 13 - 14 h

In this series, the German Postdoc Network wants to explore the variety of career paths that can follow upon a successful postdoc phase. Join the next session with Dr. Jan Philipp Heners, a research engineer and guest lecturer, who works at three different locations in industry and academia. He will discuss how he came to be in these roles, how he manages to juggle them all, and the challenges and benefits that intersectoral mobility presents.

Funding Opportunities

Int.Mo.P: Funding Conference Participations for Postdocs | Apply by

With the International Mobility Programme (Int.Mo.P) funding line, we support postdocs to go to important national and/or international conferences in their fields up to three years after the start of the postdoc. You can apply for € 2,000 maximum per conference to present the results of your doctoral or recent postdoc project. The conference must have an international orientation and you need to give a talk.

For incoming international postdocs: Writing grant for preparing proposals on-site | Apply by 1 November

This 3-month fellowship allows early postdocs to get to know Ruhr University Bochum as their potential future working place and write a joint application for funding proposals on-site. It is endowed with € 1,500 per month. Both international prospects and RUB professors can initiate an application. We award up to 4 fellowships twice a year.

For incoming international female postdocs: Lore Agnes Fellowship | Apply by 1 November

With this fellowship we want to make it easier for female postdocs to combine research and family life. Awarded once a year with € 2,300 per month, it is designed to give the fellow the opportunity to work closely with her host at RUB on a research grant proposal for up to 6 months.

For incoming international senior researchers: Visiting International Professor (VIP) | Apply by 1 November

The fellowship is awarded to outstanding international researchers contributing to early career researcher training at RUB by teaching, giving scientific advice, or becoming a supervisor and mentor. We support VIP fellows with a travel grant of € 5,000 for repeated visits to Bochum.

Gateway Fellowship - Postdoc stipend for your research experience abroad | 28th call starting in November

You have recently finished your PhD? Want to go e.g. to Harvard, Oxford, Paris or Queensland to start your postdoc career? Gateway Fellowship individual funding supports postdoctoral research stays abroad at an institution of your choice for up to nine months. Prepare your documents now!

Klaus Tschira Boost Fund | Apply by 1 October

The program is designed to boost scientific careers and promote early independence for postdocs in biology, chemistry, computer science, geosciences, mathematics, neurosciences and physics. It is offering flexible funding of up to € 115,000 , opportunities to build (international) networks, workshops, coaching, and peer support.

Fulbright-Stipendium für USA-Aufenthalte | Bis 7. Oktober bewerben

Fulbright Germany fördert 3- bis 9-monatige Forschungs- oder Lehraufenthalte an einer US-Hochschule oder -Forschungsinstitution zwischen dem 1. August 2027 und 31. Mai 2028. Bewerben können sich promovierte Wissenschaftler*innen aller Fachbereiche mit deutscher Staatsangehörigkeit. Das Stipendium finanziert u.a. monatliche Unterhaltskosten von 3.000 €, eine Pauschale für mitreisende Angehörige und eine Kranken-/Unfallversicherung.

Hector Research Career Development Award | Apply by 30 October

The Hector Fellow academy supports Junior Research Group Leaders and W1 Assistant Professors (with or without Tenure Track) in the sciences, engineering, medicine or psychology who aspire to a professorship. The award is endowed with € 25,000 and includes additional funding for one doctoral position and a 5-year membership in a network of top scientists.

Mitgliederzuwahl der Jungen Akademie | Bis 11. November bewerben

2027 wählt die Junge Akademie zehn neue Mitglieder zu, die Schnittstelle von Wissenschaft, Kunst, Gesellschaft und Politik mitgestalten wollen. Bewerben können sich Postdocs, deren Promotion mindestens drei, aber nicht länger als sieben Jahre zurückliegt. Sie bekommen Zugang zu einem breit gefächerten Netzwerk sowie finanziellen Mitteln für interdisziplinäre Projekte.

Azrieli International Postdoctoral Fellowship | Apply by 11 November

The Azrieli Foundation supports postdocs from all disciplines who wish to conduct research at an academic institution in Israel. Canditates should have received their PhD degree no earlier than 1 November 2023 and must secure an academic sponsor in Israel before submitting their application. Fellows receive an annual stipend of ILS 168,000 for up to three years.

Sandpit-Programm: Bildung und KI | Bis 1. Dezember bewerben

Die Wübben Stiftung lädt Forschende aller Disziplinen dazu ein, das Verhältnis von Bildung und Künstlicher Intelligenz aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven zu untersuchen. Gesucht werden neue Ansätze und Fragen, die das Potenzial haben, zukunftsweisende Ergebnisse zu liefern. Dafür stellt sie 50.000 € zur Durchführung einer dreitägigen Veranstaltung inklusive eines Workshops zur Ergebnisdokumentation zur Verfügung.

How do you navigate leadership responsibilities while facing permanent ambiguity? This workshop aims to help scientists reflect on self-leadership while consciously shaping their contributions to a research organization. Additionally, it seeks to support the development of a sustainable and proactive academic career strategy. Register by 19 October.

Postdoc Workshop: How to Create Successful Projects and Productive Project-Teams | online | 9 - 11 November

Scientific and research group work-processes are more and more based on project-work, sometimes with widely disparate and diverse members. This needs competencies in project management skills and also the knowledge of how to build a team and to be able to cooperate with a variety of different personalities. In this workshop, you'll learn how to combine these abilities. Register by 26 October.

Postdoc Workshop: Perfectionism and Imposter Syndrome | online | 10 November

This session explores how perfectionism and imposter syndrome can undermine your confidence, productivity, and enjoyment at work. You'll learn to recognize the thinking patterns behind self-doubt and discover practical strategies to quiet your inner critic, build self-compassion, and perform at your best with greater clarity and confidence. Register by 28 October.

Postdoc Workshop: How to get into the non-academic German job market | online | 19 + 20 November

For researchers with an international background, it can be a real challenge to get into the (non-academic) German job market at the end of an academic position. This workshop offers assistance with this and will encourage participants not just to prepare for this transition in a focused way but to create an action plan. Register by 5 November.

Junior Faculty in Focus: Webcast "First audition? Applying for (junior-)professorships" | online | at any time until 31 March

With this new format we offer Habilitation Candidates, Junior Research Group Leaders, and Junior Professors a Video on Demand. You can work through it independently and on your own schedule. The aim of this webcast is to inform you in detail about all phases of the appointment procedure for W1 to W3 professorships in Germany and to provide you with specific assistance and tips for your application. After registering you will receive an email with a link offering full access to the course.

Junior Faculty in Focus: Webcast "Erstes Vorsingen? Bewerben auf (Junior-)Professuren" | online | zu jeder Zeit bis 31. März

Mit diesem neuen Format bieten wir Juniorprofessor*innen, Nachwuchsgruppenleiter*innen und Habilitand*innen ein Video on Demand an. Sie können selbstständig und flexibel damit arbeiten. Ziel dieses Webcasts ist es, Sie detailliert über alle Phasen des Berufungsverfahrens für W1 bis W3 Professuren in Deutschland zu informieren und Ihnen konkrete Hilfestellungen und Tipps für Ihre Bewerbungen zu geben. KI-Impulse für die Lehre | online | 9. + 23. Oktober

Die Reihe des Zentrums für Wissenschaftsdidaktik der RUB bietet Hochschullehrenden einen kompakten Überblick über Entwicklungen im KI-Bereich. Jeweils von 11.30 bis 12 Uhr werden praxisnahe Themen rund um den Einsatz von KI in der Hochschullehre vorgestellt. Die nächsten Impulse beleuchten die Videoproduktion mit KI-Tools bzw. Einsatzmöglichkeiten von KI-Agenten. Kurzfristige Anmeldung möglich.

Basis-Workshop China: Größere Handlungssicherheit im Forschungsalltag in und mit China | RUB | 8. Oktober

Das China-Kompetenznetzwerk Ruhr Niederrhein (C-NET RNR) bereitet Sie interkulturell, rechtlich und sprachlich auf Ihren Forschungsalltag in und mit China vor. Am Vormittag können Sie praxisbezogene Schlüsselkompetenzen trainieren, die Ihnen den Einstieg in den Forschungsalltag in China und die Zusammenarbeit mit chinesischen Kolleg*innen erleichtern. Am Nachmittag erhalten Sie eine kompakte Einführung in die chinesische Sprache. Bis 30. September anmelden.

RDM Basics for Engineers at UA Ruhr | online | 12 + 13 October

NFDI4ING is offering an exclusive practical lecture series on Research Data Management (RDM) in Engineering for students, researchers, and anyone interested. Join for an accessible introduction combining theory and hands-on exercises (no prior knowledge required). The certificate of attendence is also recognised within the UA Ruhr curriculum as proof of participation in the RDM Basics course required for the RDM badge.
