Enhancing Graduate Education on Campus

The Visiting International Professor Fellowship (VIP) is awarded to outstanding international researchers contributing to early career researcher training at RUB by teaching, giving scientific advice, or becoming a supervisior and mentor. Research School supports VIP fellows with a travel grant of 5.000 € for repreated visits to Bochum. The fellowship is to foster international networks and provide international expertise and perspective for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers on campus. Of course, they are also the heart of lasting international cooperation, which in turn can be supported by the other funding lines of our Research Around the World Program.

Funding

Research School awards 5,000 Euro to Visiting International Professors to support their repeated visits to Ruhr-Universität. This travel grant is intended to cover travel and accommodation costs of the international guests. There are two calls for application per year, with three fellowships available on each occasion.

Please note that the VIP grant can be combined with other funding sources, including our Research Around the World programs.

Eligibility

Our Visiting International Professors are established researchers that work at international research institutions.

They are nominated by RUB (junior) faculty or (junior) research group leaders . It is essential that doctoral (and postdoctoral) researchers from the nominating research group, chair, or institute express their support through accompanying letters of recommendation illustrating the benefit of the VIPs visits for their research projects and international network.

Review Criteria

Visiting International Professors should have an excellent research profile, international visibility and intend to visit RUB several times within a period of two years.

The VIP should engage in sustained collaborative research projects and participate in advanced graduate education and in the supervision of doctoral researchers of Ruhr-Universität.

It is expected that the VIP participates in Research School events and has a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of doctoral and postdoctoral research.

Ideally, the VIP should be willing to host doctoral or postdoctoral researchers at their own institution to foster exchange with RUB.

Review Process

The applications are reviewed by doctoral and postdoctoral researchers from the respective research field of the applicant. The Executive Board eventually decides on the applications.

Deadlines

Calls end June 15 and November 15 each year. Applications may be handed in all year round.

Application

To apply please hand in three different forms:

#1: Personal data of VIP applicant
#2: Commitment, signed by VIP applicant and RUB host
#3: At least two statements of early career researcherst at RUB benefiting from the visit (to be handed in directly from ECR)
