Welcome Services: We Are Going the Extra Mile for You!

Get on Board and Feel Welcome from the Very Beginning!

We want to make your start as an international guest or new arrival as convenient as possible. To achieve this, we work hand in hand with colleagues from different departments of the university. On this page you can find a variety of RUB services for visiting and on-boarding researchers.

International Office

RUB's International Office helps international students, teachers, and researchers alike to find important information about their stay in Bochum. The International Portal offers a comprehensive overview on our university's internationalization activities and networks.

Diversity & Equal Opportunities

Every individual shapes our university with their unique qualities and skills, with their qualification and personality. This is why RUB ensures gender equality, promotes equal opportunities for people with disabilities, and nurtures cultural diversity. This also includes our status as a family-friendly university with various services to foster equal opportunities and diversity on campus! Have a look at our Diversity Portal!

Welcome Services

No matter if you have questions or need guidance on finding accommodation, getting your visa, bringing your family, child care and schooling, opening a bank account, insurances, taxes, ... you name it--RUB’s Welcome Centre is at your service! Have a look at their guide for international researchers to get a first glimpse, check their overview on Resources and Networking for International Researchers, or simply reach out to them directly!

Language Courses

Even though the most common research language on campus is English, we think it is a good idea to learn German when here in Bochum. And if you consider becoming a full professor in Germany, you need to achieve a certain level of German proficiency to handle teaching. There are many language courses available, most of them free of charge.

New: Online self-study modules for German learners with no previous knowledge (at level A0/A1) The key information are available at https://www.daf.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/sbgk/unic1.html.en
