Humboldt Fellow Dr. María Esperanza Rock Núñez

María was awarded a Visiting International Professorship in 2021 and worked with Prof. Dr. Stefan Berger at the Institute for Social Movements. After returning to Chile, she successfully applied for a prestigious Fellowship for Experienced Researchers of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. 

During my stay as a Visiting International Professor at ISB-RUB, I understand that conducting research from the Global South in dialogue with the North is not merely an exchange of knowledge, but an act of epistemic rebalancing. Comparison does not homogenize—it reveals asymmetries and strengthens collaboration through difference. At the Institute for Social Movements of the RUB, I found a genuine openness to dialogue and a deep commitment to mutual understanding. This experience was so meaningful that it inspired me to return to RUB, now with a research project funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, hosted by Prof. Dr. Stefan Berger
