Teaching Assistantships

Funding for Teaching for International Doctoral Researchers

Teaching Assistantships support international doctoral researchers of RUB to be involved in active teaching and in gaining first or advanced teaching experience during their doctorate. Doctoral researchers can apply if they will personally be engaged in teaching and actively teach students. They can apply for activities that are related to the teaching activities of their chair or another chair at RUB.

The Teaching Assistantships aim to support international doctoral researchers who have not been involved in teaching at RUB before their application or who will take over new, additional or higher-level teaching responsibilities that advance and expand their teaching experiences.

Teaching Assistantships are awarded to integrate international early career researchers in teaching on campus, advance their personal competencies, support their research careers and contribute to the internationalisation of teaching at RUB.

Therefore, docoral researchers are asked in their applications to shortly explain their personal commitment to take over the teaching acitivities and to agree with their supervisor on an individual guidance to support the personal teaching experiences.

International guest doctoral researchers who stay at RUB at least for one term are also eligible to apply.

Funding

Teaching Assistantships are awarded for 10 hours of teaching per month for a lecture period of 4 months (= 40 hours of teaching in total per semseter). They are funded with 48,- Euro per hour of teaching (a total of 1.920,- € per semester).

5 Teaching Assistantships are awarded for each semester with a funding period of 4 months for each lecture period (summer term: April - July; winter term: October - January).

The funding will be awarded as a “Lehrauftrag” at RUB. Reimbursement will be offered at the end of each term for the complete 4 months of teaching.

After the Teaching Assitantship funding ended, funded doctoral resaerchers are asked to participate in an evaluation.
