Course Description

You would like to distinguish and enhance your presentation skills. You have proven in your institute that you work soundly in an academic environment. You even feel good about your speaking skills. Are you ready to tread the stage in a larger setting and in an advanced way give your presentations?

In this workshop you will put yourself to the test. I ask you to give a presentation that is worthy of an invitation to speak to a broader audience. Think TED, where your goal is to present your work in an intelligent AND intelligible manner to smart watchers and listeners. In a way your presentation skills are just as important as your research. One that will inspire people to think about your research, to be in awe of its meaning.

You will present in a room that would resemble one where you would give a talk at a large meeting in your field or at a conference. You will speak in a room where you can move around if you like. With a big screen. The only thing missing will be the large audience. ? (But you are welcome to have friends and colleagues attend your talk.)

This workshop is available to doctoral researchers who already have presentation experience outside of their own chair/work group and want also to reach out to a public beyond their field. This requires the participant to bring awareness of topic relevance, emotion and understandability of the research to all interested.

Preparation for the workshop
One week in advance you will submit your slideshow so that I may make suggestions for possible improvement. You will have up to 15 minutes for the presentation, hence, I ask you to follow my rule: You shouldn’t have more slides than minutes to speak! (In other words, no more than 15 slides.)

Trainer:
