Report | The time after the PhD is a moment of re-orientation. To me, it was clear that I wanted to follow my passion for science and continue my academic career. Funding by the RUB Gateway Fellowship made it possible to conduct a postdoc project on the borderline of socio-cultural sports science, sport management and environmental studies. More precisely, I measured the ecological impact of a mountain ultramarathon race annually taking place in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Reunion Island and could provide the organisers with recommendations to reduce their ecological and carbon event footprint in the future. Working on an interdisciplinary topic at an internationally renowned research institute like the Centre de Recherche et d’Innovation sur le Sport (CRIS) of the University of Lyon/France allowed me to collect valuable international experience and to increase my expertise as a sports scientist. I have surely benefited from this enriching and interesting time, personally and also with regard to my future research perspectives. http://cris.univ-lyon1.fr/ |
