Report During my field research in Iraq, I asked my interviewees about past experiences and realized that the majority did not want to or was not able to remember how they dealt with certain extreme situations or that they had even experienced troubled times. As this finding has a significant impact on my research outcome but touches an academic discipline, which is not in the field of my expertise, I decided to organized a panel on the topic “Addressing traumatic experiences individually and collectively“ at the Third World Conference on Humanitarian Studies (WCHS) in Istanbul, Turkey, from October 24th until 27th, 2013. Organizing a panel means advertising and administration as well as academically challenging work. Trying to find external funding in addition might exceed a personal benchmark. Once again, I therefore felt very lucky to be a student of a structured and interdisciplinary PhD program with the Research School as RUB’s internal funding body, which furthers both interdisciplinary research and internationality. With the great financial support of the Research School Plus, my conference participation and panel organization worked out in the best and most benefitting way possible.
