| Report | The 7th International Conference on Bridge Maintenance, Safety and Management (IABMAS 2014) held in Shanghai, China was determined to join research work related to current topics of bridge engineering. The conference aims to close the gap between theory and practice, supporting the cooperation and dialogue between researchers from all over the world. To me personally, the conference offered a great experience. I was invited to present the current status of my PhD work within the mini-symposium 'Bridge Performance Assessment and Predictions using Monitoring' and a belonging paper provided in the conference proceedings. Fortunately, I received several comments and questions after my presentation and briefly discussed on some important topics of my present results. Additionally, getting to know the opinion of international fellows in front of a metropolis like shanghai allows to see beyond one's own nose and puts the status quo of own scope and strategies into perspective. |
