Report | The Veneto and Lombardy are two regions in Italy that differ widely in their artistic output during the 15th and 16th century. Thanks to International Realization Budget-funding I was able to visit Verona and Mantova in one joint research trip, being able to compare the different ways of painting in the North of Italy. Furthermore I could examine the artistic exchange that was made between these regions through the trade of small-format panel paintings. Having the possibility to conduct this kind of field research is crucial for my PhD-project, since I’m studying the genesis of a new pictorial form in small-format panel painting. A process that could only take place due to various ways of artistic exchange. |
