Report | In my PhD project, I examine 19th century medical case studies about the existence of true hermaphrodites in humans. Because my research highly depends on very rare archive material I conducted a research stay at the British Library in London in March 2017. The British Library’s impressive collection and well trained staff provided an excellent surrounding to study the rare historic documents. Additionally, London’s medical museums and collections enhanced my understanding of the professionalisation of 18th and 19th century medicine, its key players and medical societies. |
