Report | My PhD on the underlying neural factors of avian complex cognition consists of two projects: 1.Delineate the avian prefrontal cortex in different species, 2.Determine energy consumption of the avian brain. Funding of the Research School enabled me to go the USA for a lab visit and a conference attendance that greatly contributed to both of the projects. During my research stay, I learned how to execute positron emission tomography in a corvid species, which is the key technique central to project 2. After, I was able to present the first results of project 1 at the Society for Neuroscience conference and receive valuable feedback of scientific heavy-weights for continuation of the project. |
