Report | DEM has been widely accepted for simulating the micromechanical behavior of a population of independent granular materials under a wide range of conditions. Furthermore, it is to be noted that most of the DEM codes take into consideration only idealized spherical particles. However, in nature, such idealizations are a false reality. In truth, most natural sands are of semi-angular or angular shape. The main focus of the stay was to get a brief overview and initial implementation as to how to simulate different particle shapes using YADE (DEM code) and apply it for geotechnical engineering applications. https://www.utwente.nl/en/et/tfe/research-groups/MSM/ |
