Report Funded by the PR.INT program of the Research School of the Ruhr-University Bochum, I was able to attend the EUROKARST Conference in Malaga, Spain, from June 21 to 26, where I presented a climate model for barometric caves that I developed as part of my doctoral studies in the "Methods to study karst aquifers" session.
Although I am already in the final phase of my Ph.D., this was the first opportunity after numerous conference cancellations in the past years due to the Corona pandemic to exchange "live" with other international scientists about my research and further current developments in our field. In addition to a lot of scientific input, new research ideas, and valuable feedback, the format also provided the opportunity for informal exchange, whether during coffee breaks or at the conference dinner. I was most delighted about a very special "small world moment" when I met another Ph.D. student from Saint Louis University (Missouri, USA), where I studied for my Master's degree, who invited me to visit.
For all these reasons, I am very thankful to finally had the opportunity to meet and discuss with other scientists working in karst areas and caves from all over the world.
