The 4th International Conference on Functional Neurological Disorders held in Boston in June 2022 was the inaugural conference of the newly founded Functional Neurological Disorders Society, the first international organization solely devoted to promoting intradisciplinary exchange in the field of functional neurological disorder and connecting clinicians and researchers worldwide. The conference brought together leading international experts and is the single most important forum for researchers in the field. Having been delayed from 2020 due to the covid-pandemic, this year's conference was an important prospect to extend my professional network, get updates from research across the field, and catalyze further research and collaboration. The scientific program committee has invited me as a plenary speaker to give a lecture on structural imaging in functional neurological disorders at the conference, which was an outstanding opportunity to present my own research and that of colleagues to a specialized international audience. This talk contributed to heightening my international visibility and strengthen my profile as a neuroimaging research specialist in the field. Furthermore, the RUB research school funding allowed presenting a poster (presenting a study currently under review and published as a preprint at medRxiv, doi: 10.1101/2021.12.01.21266852), which additionally allowed disseminating my research and discuss the study with colleagues. Overall, participation in this conference was an outstanding opportunity to advance my research career - meeting with outstanding researchers in the field and connecting with prospective collaborators.
