Report |
Thanks to a grant from the PR.INT program of the Research School of the Ruhr-University Bochum, I was able to participate in the 18th International Congress of Speleology, which was held in Lyon / Savoie Mont-Blanc, France, from July 24 to 31, 2022. The International Congress of Speleology is organized every four years by the International Union of Speleology (UIS) - the international federation of all karst and cave researchers - and is undoubtedly the largest and most scientifically prestigious international conference in the field of karst and cave research. Thus, even before my own oral presentation, I did not only have the opportunity to learn about the latest scientific developments in speleology but also to finally meet all the faces behind the names, whose works I had studied, and whom I had quoted so often. To my surprise and excitement, many of these leading scientists in my field could already relate to me and knew my publications. On the penultimate day of the conference, I presented my research of the previous years in the session on cave climatology and discussed my results as well as future research objectives and possible collaborations with speleologists with various backgrounds from around the world. |
