Report |
From August to November 2022, I revised my PhD thesis at Huygens Institute for the History of the Netherlands (Huygens ING). In my PhD thesis, entitled “Der servus callidus als poetologische und gesellschaftliche Reflexionsfigur auf den europäischen Bühnen der Frühen Neuzeit”, I discuss a generic type of Roman comedy and its reception. To show the multifaceted reception of the Roman trickster slave throughout European drama, I analyse English, French, German, Italian, and Neo-Latin plays which range from 1497 to 1778 exemplarily considering the respective literary tradition. The research stay at Huygens ING gave me the opportunity to discuss the theses of my PhD thesis with leading experts in the field of (Neo-)Latin drama and digital methods in classical philology, i.e., digital classics. The discursive exchange with the researchers in the TransLatin team of Dr Jan Bloemendal gave me valuable impulses for my research. It promoted critical reflection and a final sharpening of the argumentation for the revision of the respective PhD thesis chapter. Moreover, I participated in the conference „Transnational Drama within and beyond Europe, 1450–1750“ which was organised by the TransLatin team in September. The conference enriched my research and was a great networking opportunity. The research stay also strengthened the connection of the Department of Classical Philology of Ruhr University Bochum with Huygens ING. During my research stay, I acquired new skills in the fields of Neo-Latin studies and digital classics from which the entire institute can benefit. Moreover, I will aim to continue the collaboration long term and I would like to intensify research in the field of digital humanities at Ruhr University Bochum. |
