Report | Thanks to the RUB Research School‘s funding for my Pr.Int project I could travel to London to participate at a symposium organized by the computer science department of UCL on the topic of my dissertation “Proof-Theoretic Semantics”. I gave a presentation about a paper, which will be part of my PhD thesis, in front of a highly specialized audience with lots of very established experts in this field. Among others the second supervisor of my dissertation was also present so that I could get direct feedback from him. Thus, this trip was especially valuable for me because over the three days I had plenty of opportunities to talk to him and discuss my work and his work. At this conference I realized again how much of a difference it makes to participate in person at such an event. Not only with my second supervisor but also with lots of other researchers who I was meeting again or for the first time, I had the chance to interact within the coffee/lunch breaks and over drinks in the evening. Having these informal interactions is very important, especially as an early career researcher still establishing contacts. Overall, I would say that going to this conference was a great success and will be very helpful for my dissertation and also my future career in academia. |
