Report During my research stay at the Mucem (Museum of Civilizations of Europe and the Mediterranean)I gathered data on-site and in close collaboration with the museum staff to analyse how they perceive and deal with religious plurality in their daily museum work, what their intentions are, and how they incorporate religious plurality in exhibitions and educational programs. The Mucem is the only national museum that communicates European history from a Mediterranean perspective. They consider monotheism to be a distinguishing feature of European culture and therefore dedicate relatively wide exhibition spaces and a lot of personal resources to displaying and educating visitors on religious plurality. Furthermore, the Mucem obtains sub-collections dedicated to beliefs, religions, and religious contact-zones.
During my research stay I interviewed staff members, participated in staff meetings and public museum events and collected data about contemporary and passed exhibitions. Also I learned a lot about the particularities of working in a french national museum and connected with international researchers in my field.
