Report |
The topic of the international interdisciplinary workshop “Borders in first millennium BC Crete”, organized by the Belgian and the Italian Archaeological Schools in Athens, is the link between establishing borders and the formation of the city. The topic of my research project is the formation of the city of Gortyn on Crete and in Athens I presented for the first time the results of the joint scientific cooperation between University of Bochum and University of Padova on the island of Crete. Our presentation “Borders and focal points in Gortyn at the beginning of the first millennium BC” gave an overview about our excavations and findings, together with a comprehensive review of all the data on the first phases of Gortyn. Therefore, we tried to highlight a new possible view of the formation of the rising city. The discussion after the presentation and meeting up with the experts on this topic was highly fruitful. |
