Report Thanks to the funding from PR.INT (Research School), I got the opportunity to visit the world-renowned laboratory from Prof. József Fülöp’s group at the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI-ALPS) in Szeged, Hungary. The very modern research center is one of the main three laser research centers in Europe and funded by the European Union. Prof. József Fülöp’s group is specialized in THz pump – probe spectroscopy and I had a challenging material with me: water.

Even though ubiquitous in the world, its chemical properties are still not fully understood. THz spectroscopy can give insight about the water molecule network. In particular, with this research stay we had very high electric fields available, that we could try non-linear THz transmission spectroscopy. Even though the time was limited to 1 month, we already acquired our first dataset and are now in the position to analyze the data.
