Report Tel Shaddud Regional Project is an archeological excavation directed by Dr. Omer Sergi (Tel Aviv University), Dr. Karen Covello-Paran (Israel Antiquities Authority), Prof. Hannes Bezzel (Friedrich-Schiler University, Jena) and Prof. Joachim Krause (Ruhr University Bochum).
Tel Shaddud is located in northern Israel, 10 km northeast of Tel Megiddo. The location is mentioned in a topographical list of Thutmoses III, and identified as biblical Sarid. The excavation aims to provide new insights into the Egyptian rule over the valley and the emergence of the early monarchic Israel in the region.
After the survey in 2022, the excavation started in July 2023. A group of 14 students of the RUB, me as a doctoral researcher and Prof. Dr. Joachim Krause joined the excavation. My role was to assist the area supervisor of area B. The excavation was complemented through academic lectures and workshops of international scholars in the afternoon and evening.
