The Council of Deans advises the Rectorate and the University Council on affairs concerning research, the arts, teaching and studies that affect the entire university and central institutions. It also serves to inform the faculties and ensures their interaction with the administation as well communication among the faculties themselves. In addition, the Council of Deans supports the faculties in the coordination of their tasks.

The Coucil of Deans elect the Dean of Research School from among the RUB professors upon proposal of the Rectorate with a simple majority for a period of five years. The RS Dean reports to the Council of Deans.
