Foster Exchange with International PhDs

Scholarship for Doctoral Researchers from International Partners

RUB Research School awards PhD Exchange scholarships to international doctoral researchers within an exisiting research cooperation. It is endowed with a monthly stipend of 1.000€ for up to six months. Besides the scientific collaboration and its benefits, guests are encouraged to get to know the German academic system and culture. Reciprocally, we hope that RUB researchers receive an invitation from the partner institution in return.

The supported doctoral researchers will become members of RUB Research School for the time of their research stay. They are welcome to participate in our workshop program and will largely benefit from the exchange with our doctoral community on campus. Thus, we also hope to enrich the interdisciplinary dialogue and networking amongst our young researchers.

One program • Four Positive Impacts:

Support in Fostering RUB’s International Research Network

This program intends to initiate, revive, or expand a bilateral exchange of doctoral researchers and, accordingly, RUB Research School hopes that the partner institutions invite RUB students for research stays in return. It will sustainably support international research collaboration and networks of RUB's researchers and institutions alike.

Research Experience and Networking for Young International Researchers from Abroad

RUB's doctoral researchers benefit from a wide range of international mobility funds enabling them to explore research opportunites around the globe. We want to enable doctoral researchers from partner institution to benefit from the same experience that a research stay abroad brings.

Internationalization at Home

By invititing doctoral researchers from international partners, we bring international flair and new research perspectives to the campus from which we all benefit.

Prospective recruitment of international talent

RUB (junior) faculty can specifically invite doctoral researchers for setting up joint research proposals and exchanging ideas for a return to Bochum as a postdoc after the completion of the doctorate.

Funding

The scholarship holders directly receive a monthly amount of 1,000 € for the time of their research stay (3 to 6 months).

Eligibilty

International doctoral researchers are eligible to apply if they have obtained a Bachelor or Master degree from a university outside Germany and are officially accepted/enrolled as doctoral researchers at their home universities.

The home department, institute, or chair of the visiting doctoral researchers must have an existing research cooperation with respective chair or working group at RUB. Applicants have to be involved in this cooperation. The research collaboration has to be documented by a cooperation letter acknowledged by responsible scientists at RUB and the international cooperation partner (see section “Application”).
